It is with extremely heavy hearts that the Huron Valley Chapter announces the sudden passing of our director, Paul Hanson, Saturday morning, May 17, 2008. Paul passed away in Cleveland while attending the Sweet Adelines convention in which his beloved daughter Chelsea was competing with the County Connection Chorus from our area.

Paul was a talented musician and singer, and dearly loved all his barbershop brethren. He was our assistant director for several years before taking the director position in September 2006. Many years ago he was the bass for the Ivy League. His passing has left a void in our lives and he will be missed.

The Huron Valley Harmonizers pass along our sincere thanks for all the Sweet Adelines in Cleveland for watching over her until family could get to Cleveland.

The Huron Valley family, including Chelsea & Alissa Hanson, would like to thank all who came together to honor our director Paul Hanson following his sudden passing.  The outpouring of love for Paul was tremendous.  As one member said after the service; "I have never felt so much love, from so many, directed at one man."  Special thanks to our sister chapter, County Connection, and their director Lynne Pierce for all they have done and continue to do.  Also, thanks to all in the district & our chapter who have stepped forward to offer their help.  The Harmonizers chorus will be directed, in the interim, by Rob Pettigrew, former director & bari in our current district champs, Chordiology, with the help of our assistant directors.  Stay tuned, we will be working with Chelsea and Alissa to set up a "Memorial Celebration" for Paul.  In the meantime you can follow the Huron Valley Harmonizers activities at; www.hvharmonizers.org or on our Hotline @(734) 445-1925.

"FRIENDS ARE FRIENDS FOREVER"

I have never seen that much love for anything in my entire life. It made me happy to see him that happy.  Paul was music and music was Paul.

I have to tell you that over the course of the last 2 ½ years we have had numerous conversations about the friends he has met through the years due to his love for music.  I’ve been able to meet a lot of you and some I know from a picture or because he would talk about his experiences with the people he met.  Paul would talk to me about his Cedar Point days and the quartets he had been in over the years. I heard so many stories and was intrigued by all of the experiences he was able to live and how his passion for music opened so many different doors for him. Music moved him and it was such a huge part of this life. Family, friends and music were so important to him so I will leave you with this……

Remember Paul when you sing. He will be there with you and give you the inspiration to sing louder and sing big. You know he is proud of all of you and he loved all of you. You were his brothers and you were very important to him. Sing on and sing prouder than ever knowing you had a remarkable man in your life that has left a footprint on this earth to be proud of. He certainly made me proud.

From the moment I met Paul on November 12th of 2005 I knew he was a special person and someone I wanted in my life. He was charming, caring, funny and very handsome. His love for life radiated all around him. Live, laugh and love… we had all those wonderful and important life skills to share together.  I didn’t think there was anything more that could bring more joy to the two of us UNTIL…..  I heard him sing, I saw him direct the chorus and I witnessed the friendships he had gained because of his love for music.

When Paul sang or was directing there was a passion and an energy that came about him that blew me away.
I need to thank the Huron Valley Harmonizers for loving and embracing Chelsea and I during the most difficult days of our lives. Thank you for your support and graciousness you showed to us.  You were there for us and we never needed to ask, you were just there. I am forever grateful to you for that. You were such a big part of Paul’s life and he loved every single one of you as a brother. You guys keep it going for yourselves and for Paul. Make the Huron Valley Harmonizers be heard all around. You made Paul proud to be your director now sing big in his memory.

I also need to thank the County Connection Chorus and their Director Lynne Peirce. Without having to say it all, YOU were there during the worse moment of Chelsea’s life. You took her in and cared for her and comforted her.  There is not a word big enough to tell you how much I value you for that. I knew she was safe during my 3 hour drive to Cleveland because of you. You as well embraced us and loved us without us ever having to ask. You were a comfort during a very hard time. Thank you for everything.

With all my love,

Alissa Hanson
