Gratiot County Chapter

On December 3rd, "Gray Matters" quartet, representing the Gratiot County Midstatesmen Chorus, spent most of the day singing to local school vocal music
groups and presenting monetary donations to the school vocal music directors.  Such donations have been given to these schools for several years and the funds are used by the recipient schools to support their music programs in any way the directors deem suitable.

Checks were given to vocal directors, Georgia Fisher (Alma), Liz Loyselle (Breckenridge), Kevin Smith (Ithaca), and Margaret Metcalf (St. Louis) schools.

The total money disbursed was $3,000 and represented funds raised by the Midstatesmen from Valentine singouts, as well as receipts from the chapter's

Annual Fall Show.  Part of this money was also given to the Alma Schools for the use of their facilities throughout the year.

This spring, these same school choirs will again join the Midstatesmen and present a concert at the Doig Chapel of the Alma Masonic Pathways.  This endeavor has been a success for several years and provides each choir, and any small ensembles they wish to present, the opportunity to perform for a large audience as well as their peers.  The show finale consists of all of the choirs joining the Midstatesmen as the entire group sings two mass numbers.  This provides an opportunity for the smaller choirs to perform with a large ensemble and also offers them the opportunity to sing with a group of mature male voices which is lacking in their individual choirs.
