Saginaw Bay Chapter


The Christmas Spirit was in the air from the very beginning when we started warming up.  Bob Winters stepped directed us  for our five Christmas songs. All was well until someone suggested that we line up in rows and we suddenly looked like a bunch of hungry shoppers on Black Friday mauling about looking for the best deals. Oh Well!!!

We proceeded to move on to the performance area, but, were temporarily quagmired in the hall between the serving tables and the walls while people tried to get through for a 'potty break'.  So much for organized chaos.
 
Then the Heaven's parted and we walked into a room filled with happy smiling faces.  Although the space was limited, we all managed to squeeze in.  We were introduced and started our program.  Chuck noted that since their Organization was "Cars Of The Past" we would sing a song of the past and we opened with "Hello Mary Lou".  Now that the tone was set we followed with The Beer Barrel Polka"  This drew a few chuckles and even broader smiles. We then changed

"How Sweet It Is",  yesterday was an example of what our 'Hobby' is all about.  We had twenty guys looking sharp in patriotic red, white, and blue outfits. This included four first timers: Bob Soldan(bass), Jerry Kehrer(lead) , Lee Leffingwell( lead), and our youngest at 14 years (Alejondro) Hondo Cervantes.
the mood a little with "Aura Lee/Love Me Tender".  NOW WE HAD THEM!  We sang "Amazing Grace"  and received  a  wonderful round of applause.  Closing with God Bless America/God Bless The USA/Medley it brought the crowd to their feet as they joined in on God Bless America.  We had a standing ovation, of course they were all ready standing, which rocked the room.
 
Since this was their Christmas Party we had to do some Christmas Songs. What better way than to start with "O Come All Ye Faithful".  By the way, Chuck did a superb job setting the order of the songs.  Next was "Angels We Have Heard On High", "Oh, Holy Night", "Silent Night".  Then we closed with We Wish You A Merry Christmas".
 
It is such a thrill to sing to an attentive audience, especially when you can feel that magical connection which is hard to explain.  Somehow the audience and Chorus become as one and we go on a musical fantasy trip reveling in the mood of song.
