BULLETIN EDITOR OF THE YEAR
All bulletin editors who have published at least six monthly issues in a year are eligible for the district contest. To enter, submit six copies each of three consecutive issues. One copy of each issue must be off-press, that is from the original run; the others may be later copies.

Editors of weekly bulletins should submit six copies each of 12 consecutive issues; for biweeklies, nine consecutive issues.

Information about the contests run by the Association of Public Relations Officers and Bulletin Editors (PROBE) may be obtained at:
www.harmonize.com/PROBE/
including Direct Assistance for Bulletin Editors and also Contests. Information includes copies of the score sheets which will be used to judge bulletins.

Even without competing any editor may submit bulletins for judges' comments no matter how many or how few issues published. No score will be given if so requested.

The district bulletin winner will be announced at the convention in April. The two top bulletin editors of the year in the district contest will be entered in Society-wide competition, the results to be announced at the international convention in July.

ONLINE BULLETIN CONTEST
In 2004 a new contest was started for online bulletins. So far the online bulletin contest is being held only at the Society level. Anyone in the Pioneer District who would like to enter his online bulletin may go for information to the PROBE site above.

ENTRIES INVITED FOR PIONEER DISTRICT
BULLETIN EDITOR OF THE YEAR
AND PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER OF THE YEAR

Attention, chapter bulletin editors, PR guys, vice presidents of Marketing and Public Relations, and chapter presidents:

Now is the time to start organizing your chapter's entries for the 2007 Pioneer District Public Relations Officer of the Year contest and the 2007 Pioneer District Bulletin Editor of the Year contest. The deadline for submissions will be Jan. 17, 2008.

This notice is aimed not only at bulletin editors and PR men, but at presidents and marketing VPs for a reason: Quite often, it seems, the men who do the chapter's word work are too modest to enter these contests. Presidents and VPs can urge them to enter. Or, if your editor or PR man has done a good job the past year, just gather up the information listed below and send it in for him. Your chapter could win an honor without singing a note!

Here are the contests:

clippings, posters, correspondence, printed programs, thank-you letters, etc. A notebook or scrapbook is a good way to package such material.

There are two PR entry classifications: PR for a major special project or PR for a chapter's year-round program.

The PR effect does not necessarily depend on the success of the events themselves; rather the judging is on the amount of actual PR that was accomplished.

Winning Pioneer District PR entries will be submitted for the Society-wide contest.

(If your chapter PR guy has done good work but does not enter this contest, presidents and vice presidents should not hesitate to assemble the information and send it in themselves.)

JUDGING
Entries in the bulletin contest are judged by experienced barbershop journalists from other districts. In addition to scores, the judges offer suggestions and they encourage continuation of the discussion as long as the editor deems fruitful. The aim is to make each editor's bulletin a more effective servant of the chapter. Public relations entries are similarly judged.

ENTRIES
Send your entries by Jan. 17, 2008 to the PROBE district contest coordinator:
